Teacher of the month
María Luisa Vélez is the head of the Arts department in High School, and the CCB Times team wanted to recognize her as the teacher of the month. She joined the school in January of 2021, and ever since then, she has been trying to make art classes interesting and fun.
What subject do you teach and in which grades?
-I teach Arts in High School, this semester I have been teaching 8th and 11th grades.
How do you feel as a new teacher considering the pandemic situation?
-I have felt good, the school has been very wise and balanced in the decisions taken. But it is a though situation for all of us, because it is hard to really get to know the students and sometimes the connection with them, especially if you are new at school. It’s been hard.
What do you like the most about the school and your students?
-I like that they are very creative and have great ideas. About the school is that there are a lot of new things we can create and change for Arts and we have a lot of support. The pandemic has delayed some of those changes, but it doesn’t mean they won’t happen.
What is your favorite part of being a teacher?
-The favorite part is that the real teachers are the students, they make you a better person constantly and they question you as a person, as a professional and in the way you do things for better.
What would you like to say to the CCB community?
-Thank you for all your patience and support all this time, it has meant a lot for me. Also, that I am willing to do my best as your art’s teacher and chief for the arts area.
Thank you for your compromise as a teacher, Miss María Luisa!
